Get organized! Being well informed and having a plan will help ensure that you don't waste time, and you get the results you want.
- Phone ahead to bridal salons. Many require or prefer you to have an appointment.
- Know your budget including accessories and alterations and stick to it. There is always a way so don't be swayed.
- Be up front about your budget with salespeople. They will appreciate any information to help you narrow down your selections.
- Be open minded about trying on different styles. What the dress itself looks like isn't as important as how you look in it.
- Ask your bridal consultant for suggestions. They often know which dresses look best on each body type.
- If you plan to wear your hair up on your wedding day, wear it up to try on dresses too.
- Wear your bridal undergarments to try on dresses if you have them.
- Avoid wearing lots of makeup or body oils that can leave residue on the gowns. Bridal salons will appreciate it.
- Eat a good breakfast, plan on stopping for a leisurely lunch, and have a water bottle handy. Wedding dress shopping is hard work!
- Bring along people who understand your style.
- Photos are generally not allowed in bridal stores so have a friend or relative make notes or draw pictures of the dresses you want to remember.
- Many bridal consultants will help you get in and out of the wedding gowns, so wear underwear that you are comfortable being seen in.
